Useful Formulas

Head (ft) = (psi x 2.31) / specific gravity

Whp = (gpm x head x specific gravity) / 3960

Bhp = (gpm x head x specific gravity) / (3960 x pump eff.)

Affinity laws for constant diameter impellers

Q1 / Q2 = N1 / N2

H1 / H2 = (N1 / N2)²

Bhp1 / Bhp2 = (N1 / N2)³

Where: Q = Capacity, GPM

H = Total head, ft

Bhp = Brake horsepower

N = Pump speed, rpm

Misc. Motor formulas

Hp x 0.746 = kW

kW x 1.341 = Hp

Torque (ft lbs) = (Hp x 5250) / rpm
